FRIDAY, Feb 25, 6 PM: Blue and Gray Dinner –Guest Speaker Dr. Ed Finch who will portray Captain Silas Wright Terry, USN. He will talk about his experiences on the Red River Campaign and escorting President Lincoln in to Richmond at the end of the war. The Kitchen on Lafayette is catering. Finch holds a doctorate in History Education and was director of the Stephenson County Museum, Freeport, Illinois for 6 years. In 2010 the Naval Institute Press published his first book, Beneath the Waves: The Life and Navy of CAPT Edward L. Beach, Jr. His latest novel is Killing Lincolns: A Gabby Gordon Mystery.

SATURDAY, Feb 26th, 9 AM – 3:30 PM Speakers and Exhibits
Speakers and exhibits are all FREE and everyone is invited.
9 AM: Dr. Edward F. Finch, “The United States Navy in the Civil War.”
10:15 AM: Brian “FOX” Ellis, Illinois Road Scholar, “Walt Whitman’s Lincoln”. Lincoln was a fan of Whitman. His encounters with Lincoln were woven into his poems, commentary on the war, and recollections of their misty morning encounters.
11:30 AM: Mike McNally, History Instructor at Shawnee Community College, “Britain and the American Civil War.”
1 PM: Dr. Nancy Kinsey Caldwell, Musicologist, “A Soundtrack for Wartime: The Songs of the Civil War.” Whether celebrating a victory, commemorating a battle, commiserating with other members of the regiment, or consoling the family of a soldier lost in combat, the songs of the Civil War offered something to every American.
2:15 PM: Ed and Diane Annable, winners of the 2018 Delta Award for Southern Illinois Historians and Authors, will discuss a historical narrative of the soldiers from Johnson County, Illinois. The battles they fought, the “March to the Sea” with General Sherman, and the march in the Grand Review in Washington, D.C.

SUNDAY, Feb 27th, 1:30-3:30 PM P.A.S.T. of Union County will host an Open House at the Heritage House, 102 S. Main Street in Jonesboro. It is Free. The House will feature local items handed down from the Civil War to Union Co. descendants. Local historian, Darrel Dexter, will speak at 2:00 pm.
