Raices Entrlezadas*Roots Intertwined

June 16 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us for an evening of story, song, and dance. Dr. Clo Johnson, ethnic folk dance researcher and educator, will weave the story of Juneteenth as The People’s Holiday.
Juneteenth has been celebrated in towns in Mexico for over 150 years. At it’s core Juneteenth celebrates the coming together of a nation and it’s allies to live out it’s original creed of liberty for all.

We have two celebrations, one on Monday, July 16 in Cobden in alliance with The Cobden Library, where we have dances from both Mexico, the United States, and those inspired from Africa.

On Juneteenth, June 19th, we will have a similar program in Anna in alliance with the Shawnee Hills Arts Council. In this program we examine the thread connecting the Southbound Underground Railroad to Mexico and Juneteenth.

Please join us for one or both of these free events! For more info, call 773 899 6862 or email clo842025@gmail.com
